Independent information pageOFOTO is not a manufacturer, distributor or seller of Hahnemühle media and has no business or other relationship with Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH. The figures are taken from the manufacturer’s public web pages and data sheets, checked on 12 October 2026. We give no prices and no links to buy.

The manufacturer

The media are made by Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH, based in Dassel, Germany. The manufacturer groups its inkjet papers and canvases in the Digital FineArt collection, divided by surface: Matt FineArt smooth, Matt FineArt textured, Glossy FineArt, Canvas FineArt, and the Natural Line made from alternative fibres.

Selected papers and canvas

We give only figures the manufacturer publishes on its product pages or in its data sheets.

How to read the data sheet

Hahnemühle data sheets follow a consistent structure. Photo Rag® 308, for example:

ItemValueWhat it tells you
Weight308 g/m² (EN ISO 536)how stiff the sheet is, not how well it prints
Thickness0.48 mm (EN ISO 534)matters for framing and for feeding the printer
Whiteness92.5%how white the paper looks
Opacity99.0%whether printing shows through from the back
pH8.3the paper is alkaline (buffered)
Calcium carbonate bufferedyesit has an alkaline reserve
OBA contentvery lowfew optical brighteners, a more stable tone

You will find the same items in other manufacturers’ data sheets. Only compare values measured by the same method, though.

How to choose

  • An all-round matt paper for portraits and reproductions: Photo Rag® is the reference type of smooth cotton paper.
  • Pronounced texture: German Etching® or William Turner. With fine detail, try a small section first.
  • Black and white with deep blacks: baryta papers. Photo Rag® Baryta has no OBAs and a warmer white; FineArt Baryta is bright white.
  • A large print without glass: Daguerre Canvas or another canvas.

A general overview of media types is in the guide to Fine Art papers. To compare types by purpose, use Paper Lab.
